Extensible: Two-edged sword
XML is [simple and] extensible, but look at the complexity (not unlike nature) that has resulted. There are many incompatible XML grammars, requiring namespaces to differentiate them (we need namespaces for acronyms now!).

Extensibility implies that unless all extensions are made to be compatible, there will be forking in their usage, resulting in some documents using some extensions not being able to be opened (with full functionality) in other extensions, or even the base spec.
