Sounds like you've taken...
...a leaf from the MS playbook in that one Anton.

Just because MS operates that way, and just because their competitors would like to take some marketshare back from the evil empire, does not mean that that is what ODF is all about. If it takes some marketshare from MS, so what? It's just a natural consequence of a monopoly having a HUGE percentage of the market and some of it being eroded. It will happen.

The purpose of ODF is so that in the future, whether near or far, without permission from MS or anyone else, we can open the documents we created in the past, whether near or distant.

Why do MS want to create a standard which is proprietary? So they can control it. Look at their history!! It's what they do. It's part of how they've ACHIEVED their marketshare. And people like you would like to set it further in stone.
