Nice spin!
"When the world has standardized on Open XML and ODF has been forgotten..."

Hold up...your assumptions have me laughing too hard already!

"So on the one side will be user choice resulting from normal operation of the market, and on the other side will be manipulation and abuse of government authority as in MA."

Didn't you just read the blog the other day about who interfered with the govt in MA? Alan Yates of M$ admitted to Gutierrez in an email that Brad Moore had lobbied the MA government to take away the discretion of the MA IT Director to approve ODF as a standard file format. Who is abusing government authority for their own gain? You have it obviously backwards.

"Freedom and openness will favor Microsoft."

When have they ever? M$ continues to drag its feet on this score. Do you dare to sit here and tell us that M$ would have *ever* gone to Office XML if it weren't for the demands of customers and the fear that those customers' demands might be met by competitors who were implementing open formats in XML (ODF and its predecessors)? M$ went to that fight like a cat on it's way to a bath, and you know it.
