You don't have to reformat NTFS for Linux?!?
At least with Red Hat's Fedora, you NEVER have to repartition your hard drive. there is no loss of data during an upgrade, or even a new install unless you TELL the setup program to reformat your drive

So, if you upgrade from Windows XP to Fedora Linux you don't have to reformat your harddrive?!?

I know this isn't what you meant, but it is what the parent meant ... upgrading from Windows XP to Linux does require a reformat of the harddrive (at least in Fredora Core 6 I didn't see an option to leave the hard drive at NTFS). This would force a backup and restore of the data.
