Hardware didn't slow or de-feature Vista

I think if you look back at the reporting, the delay in XP arose from a state of paralysis due to unmanageable complexities and dependencies (that were addressed in 2005) and the reassignment for about a year in 2002 of the Longhorn/Vista team to assist in getting XP SP2 out the door. This is not to say that backward compatability and wider hardware support are not issues that Microsoft take seriously.

I for one have said and continue to think that quicker, even paid-for, update cycles are a feature and not a bug and this applies to my choices regarding using Linux and OS X.

I'm also going to mention, regarding Aero, that OS X had solved a lot of the problems with better-performing graphics by 10.2 which ran fine on my 500MHz / 512MB G3 iBook. Now we argued regarding PowerPC versus Intel back in those days, but I'm curious today as to why a faster Intel machines from 2005 with more memory and a better graphics card still need an upgrade to use Aero comfortably when Quartz was doing well in 2002. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the whole Vista-ready thing and it's about selling new equipment and not valid consumer guidance.
