The results showed that while the Windows Mail email client (Vista's upgrade of Outlook) could identify and halt all of the threats, Stratio-Zip, Netsky-D and MyDoom-O - each of which are commonly disseminated via email - were able to bypass the defences when accessed via a third-party web email client.

That seems unambiguous to me. How many webmail users are there? If they are lying, let MS sue them for defamation. Also, you point out that the defenses seem to be in the client, and not the underlying OS. I will give you credit where I should have stated that Outlook identifies and blocks the threat.

On the second link, I clearly quoted that there were no known or live issues with it, it was a proof of concept, the key part following that... Microsoft, along with antivirus and other security companies, will have time to bring in countermeasures that would (I hope) make them impossible before Vista is finished.

Did they fix it? I don't know, do you?

I think Vista security, how robust the OS level security is, the effectiveness of 3rd party anti-(insert noun here) is a big unknown, and reason why people should wait and see how secure it actually is. If only to evaluate what extra's you need before you deploy it and trust in it.
