You "Office makes the world go round" guys are too funny
Got news for you, .doc files are the biggest problem in business, not the grease that keeps the machine moving.

What company in their right mind is going to put the future of its business in a ".doc" strategy - even MS acknoleges the failre of .doc that's the whole point of the XML strategy.

Just because companies have tons of info stranded inside .doc files doesn't make that a positive ... there is a reason companies are not upgrading their Office suites just because MS thinks its time ... understand!
