Users did not make Office the standard!
,,rather its the decision makers in IT who chose to standardise on Office..

And why would they do that?

..That's why MS is pitching Office XML ... for the corporations to standardise on as an alternative to moving off Office alltogether...

Actually most new products are XML aware.
This was the original '.Net' marketing strategy.
The framework and all its middleware products use it extensively.

..Face it, PDF is more of a standard than Office's file formats..

For publishing PDF is great.
Harder to edit though.
Not a standard for workflow docs.

..And for the most part, Office 98 *is* the standard...

I thought you said PDF was?

..Companies are moving off MS's file format lock by design...

Companies rarely move away from something that doesn't handle legacy data.
There's too many .doc out there.
