Sorry, I have to disagree.
Given a 90 or 95% market share for the desktop (where Office runs) the vast majority of users simply won't care if it's compatible with open source or not. Especially if it is compatible with all the proprietary products from for-profit vendors.

As many have pointed out (repeatedly) the reason MS Office is the defato standard around the world is because it's compatible with all the other users. Nothing is going to change about that. There will be one small, group left out side and that's true open source products.
