Some buttons just beg to be pushed
---Would stop with the silliness about when Longhorn will be
released?---

Sorry, just like pushing your buttons. But seriously, the product
is already massively delayed and now they're cutting features left
and right just to try to get something on the market within the
next 2 years. How much farther along will OSX and Linux be in 2
years? Will MS be stuck playing catch-up?

---And yes you are correct in that if these for-profit companies
want to be MS distributors they will certainly be allowed to...But
doesn't that sort of fly in the face of why people go with open
source?---

I think there are a lot of different reasons people want to use
open source software. Some do it for ideological reasons, others
(probably the majority) do it because they are unsatisfied with
the available proprietary software (for many reasons including
price and functionality). I think the immediate future lies in a
blending of the two in most environments. Most corporations
want to have an established company to stand behind the
products they're buying, so a mix of open source and proprietary
seems a reasonable business plan.
