I appears John that you've never used anything else but
Office. Step out of the "Microsoft halo" and try something
else for a change. Paradox is a dream to use. Powerful yet
easy to use. Another good package is 4D, which is what I
am using now on the Mac. Load it on an X-Serve and voila,
in minutes you have a rock-solid, easy to use DB without all
the hassles of Access.

It takes a while to get used to the way one creates a
database in more of a "object orientated fashion" but it
gives you boot loads of flexibility once you're used to using
it.
