Your objection 2 doesn't make sense
Surely what you describe would involve someone writing a statement of infinite length? This isn't really something that is likely to happen.

With SQL you have to do all sorts of procedural workrounds because of the absence of closure. In most cases you are going to end up with something that performs less than optimally long term because you are hard coding the access path rather than the optimiser deciding at execution time. Therefore the lack of closure is both illogical and damages performance.
