1. You can always use the DISTINCT keyword to make sure that a query would respect the relational algebra. SO you can choose to be striclty relational...

2. Remember that we are talking about real systems. Theory is nice but at a certain point you need to implement something. I'm sure that if you, Oracle, IBM or MS had a computer with infinite memory and infinite time to wait for a result you (or them) could also implement a system with an infinite level of nested subqueries.

3. I agree with you on this point but then again, this don't make the DBMS currently available less relational.
