Absolutely no perspective
I'm reading a lot of trash like this where people are saying MySql can't do what MS Sql server does, but NO ONE is giving a good technical example with a description of why the difference really matters.

And to suggest that cheap is necessarily worse than Microsoft is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Show me any article that says Win 2K3 is is more stable, more robust, or more powerful than say, BSD unix, the operating system that runs Yahoo's servers and OS X is based upon. Tell me what exactly SQL Server can do that Postgres (an amazing database) can't that is important?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not denying that SQL Server and Oracle are more powerful. What I am saying is that for most problems, you CAN quite easily solve it with MySQL or Postgres, or Ingres, or Firebird, or a plethora of other solutions.

The fact is, software engineers were writing *real solutions* before relational databases existed, and databases just make life easier, that is all. Solutions come from creativity and intelligent thinking, not from what product X can do that product Y can't.
