it is all going to come down to drivers

In the final analysis the early success of Vista, like x64 before it, is going to come down to drivers.

If early adopters try to load Vista and discover that their hardware is either not supported or poorly supported, they will wind up going back to XP and XP will remain the dominant OS for years while Microsoft's ad engine works to overpower the early driver horror stories.

If the drivers problem turns out to be overblown, Vista's adoption rate will probably be roughly equal to XPs. With more Vista PCs than XP PCs sometime in mid 2009.
