Microsoft Enterprise Agreement - return to Novell
The article implies that organizations with Microsoft Enterprise Agreements will now be adding Novell.

"Microsoft will pay Novell $240 million for 350,000 coupons--70,000 per year--entitling customers to support and maintenance for Novell's Suse Linux Enterprise Server, Novell Chief Executive Ron Hovsepian said Tuesday. "

The way I see the above quote is that Microsoft management recognized that it wasn't going to be able to meet real and implied obligations to those who purchased Microsoft Enterprise Agreements. The biggest implied obligation would be to an organization that recently moved off of Novell to pure Microsoft and found itself worse for it.

Such an organization would know it had been damaged after the move and would seak to be made whole by adding up the damages and going after Microsoft for fraud, perhaps in the form of a class action. Microsoft management must have known how far behind the company was and how unlikely it was to catch up. I really see some smarts in the Novell deal. There is hardly any down side for honest folk. There of course may be a down side for the side-dealers. A lot of strings have been cut with this deal.
