Most can really not tell any difference between the two, in terms of
features and functionality. Of course, there may be some formatting problems between MS Office and OpenOffice, but you even have than between versions of MS Office. But, given that the majority of employees just write simple memos and do simple spreadsheets, OpenOffice can actually save you time since there are not so many baroque features as with MS Office.

I have been using OpenOffice since the 1.0 release, and have had about zero problems, other than having to re-format a document every now and then. I have heard that most of these problems is because people use spaces and carriage returns to get the document they way they want it, not true compatibility problems. If you are on Linux, it also helps to install the Microsoft compatible fonts that are available to eliminate the differences in formating due to fonts.

Myself, I can see no reason to use MS Office.
