- NTFS? WTF?
-
If they get to legally integrate NTFS into SUSE, then I would be hard pressed not to switch to it, since I've been considering such a move for a while, but having to move close to 200 gig worth of data isn't my idea of fun. Having SUSE capable of installing on an NTFS drive would make it A LOT easier to justify switching . . .
Moving NTFS data from MS to Linux is easy -- just mount the filesystem and copy the data. Writing to an NTFS filesystem is still not guaranteed safe, bur reading is solid.
Alternately, just tar the stuff up under Microsoft and copy it to a FAT filesystem, then untar it in Linux. There are about 20 other ways to do it about as painlessly as any other filesystem transfer (including the ones you end up doing when you reinstall MS stuff.) - Posted by: Yagotta B.
