MS rhetoric is they only do what customers want ... (LOL)
so let's look closely at those widely demanded "features" ... we are all banging down the doors for new PC's with hardware embedded into them to only allow MS OS and applications to run on them ... right?

Strong Process Isolation

A mechanism that provides an execution space that is protected from external access, such as viral attacks even if launched from the kernel. It is set up and maintained by the nexus and enforced by the hardware.

read this as MS absolutely controls exactly which SW you "choose". Try to run something MS does not "like" and ... oops its a virus, we can't allow that to run because it would undermine security if we told the ISV how to execute it. Reverse engineer the HW, sure you can run whatever you want, tell others how to do it you go to jail for DCMA type corporate espionage (you broke strong encryption and sold it).

Sealed Storage

An authenticated mechanism that allows a program to store confidential information. Sealed data is only accessible to the program, nexus and machine that stored the data.

Not only do we own your applications, but we also own your data. Once its locked into our domain, we promise we won't do the stupid short sighted stuff we did in the past which cost you a fortune. And if you leave our "next generation" oh well, you don't deserve to take ouyr data anyway, start from scratch!

Secure Path to and from User

A mechanism for providing a secure channel between input and video devices and the nexus. Data entered by the user and presented to the user cannot be read by software such as spyware or Trojan horses. Trojan horses and other software cannot mimic or intercept input, nor can they obscure or alter output.

Yeah, right ... we certainly need this, but like the spooks will ever allow a vendor to deliver this. We couldn't even get our industry to be allowed to participate in encryption related products ... so now MS is going to be given a pass to distribute this globally ... get real - its hype. This will never come from a vendor who can be leveraged by govenment sales ... this will only come from the OSS space and it probaly is needed.

Attestation

A mechanism for authenticating the trustworthiness of a software and hardware configuration. The PC owner can allow machine characteristics to be included in an attestation for certain programs or selected requestors.

See, we told you, anything we don't like just can't run on your computer. That's why you threw out all the old HW and bought all new HW and OS and Apps anyway right? We need the revenue, where's your patriotism - this is mandated by Patriot Act III didn't you read that in the press?
