Sucks to be you!
Most Open Source developers do what they do and work on what they work on (projects) because it is of interest to them, not for the financial rewards. If it were not, they would go work on something else. Same holds true with many people in at will employment situations. I suppose this is a lost concept with you as have never gotten past the at will employment concept that is used in places like the United States, European Union, South Africa, Asia, etc.

Must suck for you to be forced to work somewhere, must burn you that people have choices and can do what they want (within reason).
