Re: Sales attempt by anti-virus company
"An enterprising developer proceeded to then create a file which
to any mp3 player will appear as an mp3 file, but the Mac OS X
Finder sees it as an application"

I don't think that's quite right. The Intego article is not terribly
clear overall, but they seem to be saying that the file is an
ordinary MP3 file with executable code in the ID3 tag. Therefore,
the file does look like an MP3 to the Finder. Presumably the code
is executed when the information contained in the ID3 tag--
usually the name of the track and such--is read???

By the way, have you ever tried to change the name of an OS X
app to something else? By default, the .app extension is hidden,
but if you try to stick ".mp3" on the end of the name, Finder
makes the .app extension visible, so you have ".mp3.app". Then,
if you try to remove the ".app", Finder puts it right back again. It
seems they've already gone to great lengths to avoid the kind of
exploit you're describing.
