Need for Federal Sales Tax
There are troubling constitutional questions regarding state taxation of interstate commerce. The solution lies in the imposition of a Federal Sales Tax on interstate sales. 'Use tax', as it is referred to, should be reserved for merchants who make personnal use of items purchased for resale. Sales tax, on the other hand, should be based on location of the transaction. Innerstate should be taxed by the respective state as they see fit. Interstate, on the otherhand, should be taxed at the federal level (and if the federal government decides to share those revenues with the respective states, so be it, and if the federal government decides the tax rate should be 0%, so be it, in any case the jurisdiction is properly federal, not state).
