Only Red Hat?
Suppose a request for payment reads $5,000 for software and $0 for services. Suppose a second reads $0 for software and $5,000 for services.

Would you consider these two any different?

Charging for services is only changing the line items in the bill.

Ubuntu, like Red Hat, is hoping to make a profit.

If the software were given away, and the competition were solely on the basis of what organization could supply acceptable services most inexpensively, then any organization which did not make the software in question would have a nearly insuperable advantage: lower software development and distribution costs.

So I don't think my comment inappropriate to Ubuntu. If the company wants to make a profit, the company must be selling software. All that Ubuntu is adding to the Red Hat model is a reduction in maximum profit because of the single distribution.

Though that approach may prevent the development of equivalents to the clones that feed on Red Hat.
