Agreed -- the Migration Begins!!!
I am a professional geek, and have been waiting for years to get something that could replace Microsoft. I personally have had it with their 800 lb gorilla routines. I refuse to pay for giving someone else the privilege of telling how I'm going to do something or another hardware upgrade.

I have been testing out Fedora Core 6 and Open Office and to honest Fedora is as good as Windows 2000 and I never get the blue screen of death. Linux has some different ways of doing things some better than Microsoft and some not as good. Open Office will fill all of my needs and thinking about it would fill the needs most of the people that I support. Microsoft it's self has admitted that 90% of the people using office only use 10% of it. These days most people need a good email client with a spell checker a word processor and a spread sheet and you can get all of this and more without all of the viruses, spyware and other malware that come with the price tag of being in a Microsoft world. I'm beginning to believe that there is a Linux flavor for everyone that cares to look.

To those people that think open source is a waste of time you should look at where some of your favorite programs come from. Microsoft has a long history of using open source code, they just advertise the fact because Microsoft knows most people can't be bothered to find the truth. The TCPIP stack has it's origins with BSD and Internet Explorer is ?Based on NCSA Mosaic?. One could also bring up that Macs are based on BSD now also.

To those that think Microsoft will never go away, just remember names like ?Borland, Word Perfect, Corel, SCO and Novel? all companies that would never go away or be replaced. I look forward to the day that Microsoft is a whining child.

If companies want to switch to open source they should take the money they would spend on Microsoft upgrades and pay it to their employees for learning Linux and Open Office. Just think of the time and money saved on not having to track licenses or another software audit for Microsoft. If everybody used open source code it would put the software pirates out of business.

The above is wishful thinking out load but done on a Fedora Core 6 and Firefox
