Vendor Supported Stack
To be honest, this is about the only response Oracle could make to a commonly-heard piece of fud from Microsoft SQL sales staff - because microsoft controls the OS, it can ensure tight integration with its database - a option not open to any other vendor - and can guarantee that future upgrades and patches to the OS will not break the database (mind you, given their inability to ensure that patches to the OS don't break even the OS, I would not wager on keeping application-space clean)

But no matter - oracle need to be seen to be in "control" of their base os. Sun is too hard a target, MS an active opponent - but linux is sitting there with "you can have me for free!" written all over it. There was talk that they would go for the novell/suse buyout, but again, why pay if you can just fork a major (and all-american) distro for free, and still get free "upgrades" to your fork by porting them from the os tree you took from in the first place? Only possible downside is any community backlash - but then, oracle have always been for big business customers, not the little guy....
