Your right, I do need a new sense of humor.
"Was THAT constructive enough for you or would you like color-coded queue cards to go with it as well as a puppet show?"

Now that would be a nice change but I doubt if my browser would be up to it.

I can?t remember replying to this codger before, but then I only post here every now and then, so it's easy for me not to have encountered him before (or as is more likeky ignored him).

However, I don?t care one iota, as I've said already, no matter who seeded the debate I've put my viewpoint. If you look at my other posts today then you'll see that collectively I've put a reasonably solid argument (to which no one has yet put even a reasonable counter argument).

"You have lost your sense of humor. Or did you even have one to begin with?

You're spot on (and what little I ever had atrophies more when I'm working with substandard computer code--which seems to be all too frequent these days).

"What do you define as constructive? Someone who conforms to what you think?"

No, not at all. I may have lost my sense of humor but I do pride myself in looking at both sides of any argument. Often I'm wrong and often I'm right, that's the way it goes. I might be wrong here but I have looked at the issues in some depth (given that I'm paid to do so as an IT manager). Thus, your response here is very fair and reasonable one given that you are addressing an irritable grouch who usually doesn't mince words. (I should also point out that often, to rev up discussion, I'll overstate my case or even put views that are contrary to mine. This in not me being perverse, rather it's just my way of getting people to think about issues. It mostly works, but sometimes (rarely) it ends in acrimony for which I'm always sorry.)

"What this whole article was about is that FireFox 2 has better security and speed than its predecessors."

Yes I know that. However, in any of my posts today I've not mentioned security anywhere (although others have implied that I prefer insecure IE to Firefox, which is not the case.) In fact' I've deliberately steered clear of security issues today.

What I was trying to point out what that there are major ongoing functional problems* and issues with Firefox and if they are not addressed soon then these legacy issues will never be able to be fixed as the problems will become too monumental, and thus to the real detriment of Firefox. (BTW, these are not my pet hates, they come out of my job--I've seen many users, both experienced an inexperienced, try to come to grips with some of the issues that I've raised in my other posts of today.)

Perhaps I've been unsuccessful in getting over these points.

"I, personally, haven't seen too much of a difference there. As I have stated in a below post I do like it and find that the only thing that mildly annoys me is the spell checker. I prefer the functionality of FireFox over IE as it is and probably always will. I also personally think that the Security in IE makes the security in FireFox look like Fort Knox."

I'd agree with all these propositions. Also, I rarely use Internet Explorer. My preferred options are Opera and Firefox although lately I've been using that other Mozilla product, SeaMonkey.

"Now back to your little tirade over what people are posting here. Mikey posts that (and I know someone else told you this) like he does as comic relief. If you can't take the joke then don't read it. Is it too hard for you to ignore his comments?"

Whilst I don't post often (nor even read all the editorials--probably only one in five or six), I have been posting for quite a long while (since say 1998-99). Therefore, I'm well aware of the extent and range of the posts. (When compared to other sites, one of the good aspects of ZDNet is the pretty broad cross section of posters, it stops it being boring. Controversial and heated replies are good too, that's what keeps me reading.

Thank you for your reply and I look forward to another heated discussion with you in the near future.

[* No one in the 'know' really disputes this, it's why with every point release of Firefox we see many extensions fail (amongst other issues).]
