Yeah, essentially I agree.
Yeah, essentially I agree.

Engineering and security issues ought to be under the hood as far as the user is concerned but unfortunately, they're so often not.

Users have to worry about computer and Internet technology as car owners did at the turn of the 20th Century or radio owners did for the first 20 years of radio broadcasting. Tweaking things was an accepted albeit boring norm.

From these historical cases (which are pretty typical of the early days of any technology) it's easy to see that were are still in the 'Crystal-Set Era' of computing and the Internet.

It is my contention that this should no longer be the case. Had Microsoft and other industry players been fairer and a little more magnanimous and by agreeing to implement international standards such as the W3C then we'd probably be a decade further ahead in useability by now.

What I didn't say in the earlier post was that Microsoft is pretty much at the core of these troubles. Had M$ sold its browser then so would have Netscape and all others. With continued financial income--lost when M$ made its browser 'free'--then Netscape could have developed the product properly.

As Firefox and other browsers (Seamonkey, Opera etc.) are 'free' then the Firefox developer cowboys have no one to be answerable to, thus they do more or less what they like and not what's best for the user. Of course, this suits M$ down to the ground, it loves the shambles and disarray it's caused within the industry as poor long suffering users will go to M$ one-stop-shops to lessen their confusion.
