Not every distro has those tools
If you run Ubuntu and the system doesn't correctly identify your monitor, it guesses low performance to avoid monitor damage. So you have to edit xorg.conf manually. You must enter resolution "XXXXxXXXX" in all the color depth lines, and the refresh rates for the monitor. Be careful!

Also linux doesn't support 5.1 digital dolby or all of the features of the graphics cards. Just the basics. Even a supplied binary from the chipset manufacturer is a medium effort. It isn't all out like a proprietory system.
