You have a fundamental misunderstanding...

You misunderstand "choice". No particular vendor is going to offer every combination that you may consider a "choice". Nor ought they - that would be bad business, since the engineering and support overhead grow too quickly. Don't you think you have some valid choices from other vendors that offer non-AMD boxes? Your choice is offered to you. But it's offered by the market as a whole, not a single vendor. You won't get the best pricing if you're locked on to a single vendor anyway...you ought to be playing one vendor against another. How did you get to be in charge of procurement? Anyway...I think you really ought to reconsider your stance on AMD - there's a reason Sun uses so much AMD. Opteron processors are the best out there right now for the type of boxes you're looking at - that's the reason why they've stolen so much share from Intel in such a short amount of time the past two years.
