Sun isn't planning on making money by controlling who uses Java...

after all, as was pointed out, Solaris is open, and yet, it hasn't crippled Sun.

It'll be the license which determines sun's fate... I personally have found no need to use Java, as C++ has met all the needs I have as a programmer (and then some), however, if Java becomes open, you could find it beneficial for Sun... they sell the services of helping programmers, training programmers, holding seminars, etc. and as such, they're the de facto standard for your Java needs...

they're switching from selling the software, to selling a service, as I see it.
