"A large portion of Java developers don't want this, they are
afraid of what will happen when Sun is no longer the benevolent
dictator over Java."

Where is this "large portion"?

Sun's move to open source Java will mean their version of Java
will be integrated into every *nix distribution. On windows
nothing will change as it will remain a download with MS unlikely
to bundle it in windows server.

The advantage to *nix users is that patch management for Java
will become part of the their distribution. We'll even have ports
to many more architectures (I'm keen on PPP405).

Opening sourcing of Solaris hasn't had the disastrous effect
Anton had hope, now he shouts the sky is failing for open
source Java. Don't be fooled by this Chicken Little;-)
