It does help....
... by ensuring that Linux has an up to date version of a key technology available to it. It would be very serious if Adobe decided not to develop for Linux at all.

Given that Adobe's user base has a very proportion of Mac users (due to Illutrator etc) and given that OSX is a Unix/Linux spinoff it should be quite easy for them to port the Mac player to Linux.

It also gives them access to a market that Microsoft has little control over. Whilst Linux will not be storming into the domestic market anytime soon, it has more chance in the corporate and SME markets and if Adobe can do anything to help develop that sector of their business they would be wise to do so.

Given Vista's licensing restrictions there may be movement towards Linux in the Small & Medium sector where cash in the balance sheet is more important than shoving vast amounts of licence fees into Microsoft's already overstuffed bank account.
