Why mix Microsoft's Passport and DRM strategies?

DRM is about Microsoft making sales to the demented content companies.
Passport was about the sale of a service to merchants. Looks like that model isn't going to work, so Microsoft will make mostly internal use of Passport concerning permissions.

Two completely different issues.

And why would you think Microsoft has the slightest interest in becoming a Unix company at this late date?
Solaris will find its niche, but big, expensive Unixes are hardly going to be predominant.
