You're right about one thing
You are correct, this as a technological feat is nothing impressive. Rehashing old code to fit their needs is nothing new.

What makes this newsworthy is the fact that if this project comes to fruition they will soon have the choice of using this rehashed system instead of buying Windows. That means more money for local Linux system programmers and supporters and less for Microsoft.
