if I just used a function out of the open source into my calss that has otherwise 25 other functions, GPL requires me to make my whole class GPLed. CPL does not. I'm not changing the original open sourced code so there are no improvements and I don't want to have a separate component just for that function.

In this case CPL makes sense while GPL no.

I know that you'll ask waht does the open source code author gets, well, it was him who choose to distribute his work under CPL knowing full well what it meant.

In the end, the main difference between CPL ang GPL is that while both require the changes to be published, the CPL allows the code it coveres to be included in a large project without making other code that might be included on the same library CPLed.
