USF is new???!!?
Pleeez! I've been complaining about the USF et al. for years. BellSouth gets plenty of my $ for just basic dial up (~$45/mo). I use a different LD carrier. Out of that monthly fee almost 25% is fees and taxes. I think it's highway robbery for them to tack on another fee that is under the label of recovering something I've been paying all along!

I'm still on dial up because neither BellSouth nor Comcast, my only 2 broadband choices, are companies that I like dealing with though I do on both counts. Both have lousy customer service, and both continue to jack up prices for no apparent reason. My Comcast digital cable (remember no internet) has risen an average of $3.50 per quarter for the last 2 years. I haven't gotten any new channels in that time! Then add $40/mo for internet...no way.

On the other hand, there is no way I'm going to subscribe to all the bundled crap that you have to just to get DSL here. If I don't then I pay the same price as Comcast internet for slower speeds.

I realize companies are in business to make money, but somewhere there has to be a moderation between that drive and giving your customer what they're ostensibly paying for. Right now I feel that I'm getting gouged no matter which way I turn, so I stick with dial up. It's slow as can be, but it only costs $12/mo.
