You're not giving someone permission to actively search it. You're giving permission for a process to scan it. I really fail to see how this is any different from, say, a spam filter. Those too scan an e-mail, boil it down to a concept (spam or legit?), and then potentially alter the message (such as the way SpamAssassin changes the subject to include "***SPAM***"). Is that a privacy violation?
