Vily Clay wrote: "Yeah, only 98% is owned by MS."
Uh, no it's not, Vily. Microsoft does not control 98% of the entire software market. They're not in many, if not most, of the specialized software markets: medicine, including veterinary medicine, engineering, and digital forensics are a few I can think of right now. They don't have any kind of a grip on video, audio, graphics, music, and other media-related markets.
Microsoft doesn't even have a very firm grip on the enterprise market. The only market they have a firm grip on is operating systems. They had one on office products, but they're losing it to competition.
Apache controls HTTP, mainly because IIS is a buggy POS. Microsoft competes on database with Oracle, MySQL, Sybase, IBM, and a few others, and I think Oracle is actually at the top. ASP competes against Perl, PHP, and several others.
On gaming, they compete with other companies as well. They compete in the console market with Sony and Nintendo, and on the PC market with a lot of game developers. Microsoft also competes in the developer market, but Visual Studio is on top.
But Microsoft's non-existence in many specialized markets alone proves your statement completely wrong, by a large margin.
Vily Clay wrote: "But by your scenario of competition ? one day one company INEVITABLY will seize the whole planet with all governments, businesses, people, etc. Nothing is wrong with, isn't it?"
No, one company will not inevitably seize the whole planet. There are all kinds of natural controls in place to keep that from happening. If you notice the balance of power has switched between many companies over the course of the last two centuries, and not one company controls the world and I highly doubt will ever control the world.
Vily Clay wrote: "You didn?t understand the idea of what I am talking about. OSS/GPL + a well-organized system won?t globalize anything even if it would be the leading world power."
OSS/GPL is already globalized because it exists in every country, competing alongside closed-source companies and products like Microsoft, IBM, and many, many others. And even the developers themselves will want their product in as many hands as possible, there is nothing to get around that. Competition will always exist.
Vily Clay wrote: "You did not pay attention to the words ? ?by certain algorithm?."
I paid attention to your words very well, Vily. I also happen to be an educated individual. I've studied government and economical structures in college, so I'm curious to learn what kind of system or algorithm you have in mind that prevents corruption, because as far as I've seen (and I studied a lot), one does not exist.
So how about not insulting me on your attempt to raise yourself above others. You are no superior to anyone, so stop trying to force it.
I am perfectly capable of listening to whatever theory you have in your head. I also won't require two (or more) lectures to understand it, as I'm perfectly capable of researching whatever system you mention.
In all actuality, all you have to do is provide a name, and I can go from there.
But one thing to point out that you've yet to refute: prevent. By your own words, this algorithm will only prevent corruption, not eliminate it. So by my own words, I am still correct in that nothing can completely prevent or eliminate corruption.
Vily Clay wrote: "That?s why you want to screw your life"
You'd better not be referring to the fact that I'm an evolutionist with that statement. Being an evolutionist does not make me lower than you by any definition.
And no, I'm not out to screw my life. I'm here just to live and try to live the best life I can provide for myself.
Vily Clay wrote: "Analogously ? plants are here not to compete..."
Yes plants do compete. They compete all the time for the best space to get the most sunlight and best soil. They are here to produce oxygen, yes, but they are also here for survival, only in successful competition do they last.
As humans, we are here to compete amongst ourselves to survive. That is what we're competing for, ultimately, is survival. We are all just competing in different ways.
Vily Clay wrote: "According to you the entire stock market did not react on 9/11. Well, maybe you have problem with your memory or there is something worse, ken_ballard@...?"
No, my memory is perfectly fine. I remember very well seeing the stock market drop by at least 25% in the weeks following 9/11. It bottomed out at close to 7,000 on the Dow, if I remember correctly. You just drew an invalid assumption from my statement.
I never said that the stock market did not react to 9/11. I never said that. I just said that the stock market was already in decline before 9/11. Again, you just make an invalid assumption.
And in regard to Bill Gates, the only thing you have is speculation. You cannot possibly back up your answers with anything concrete, or if you can, I'd love to see credible sources cited.
Show me a credible source that provides credible information that Bill Gates knew 9/11 was going to happen, and that he lined his pockets in reaction to this knowledge. And show me that he was profiting from the war and the anthrax assault.
Plain and simple, you can't. You have nothing but speculation or sources that are spouting speculation. - Posted by: ken_ballard@... Posted on: 09/29/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
