If it weren't for the sentiments
The anti MS rhetoric and everyone would take a look at just what MS has coming, they have to give it a good assessment if an open honest good IT person. There are things I like about linux and JBoss in particular that are absolutely great. I've got a decade of unix programming under my belt as well. I'm excited about the heterogeneous IT shop. But to have a large sector of people so bitter as to dismiss the underpinnings of vista, office 2007, office grove 2007, sharepoint 2007....that is pure blinded by hatred if there ever were. There is not one technologist worth her salt that is dismissing the very good amount of opportunity that lies in these upcoming releases. I've always been an XP fan anyway. I've never had a problem with the 3 machines I use between work and home. Occasionally a 3rd party product is poorly written but there is always a fix. I've come back from where many would have wiped and started over back to a point of good PC health running as clean as after a wipe and reinstall. It's all there at everyone's fingertips. Windows server 2003 R2 and Active Directory/GPO are great. They are just great. Does the linux crowd really think that is not a viable server platform? It stands to toe to toe with any other server going now. MS machines have been solid now since 2000/2001 or so. As solid as any that is and the vulnerability numbers prove that. Sure some have taken the already hard shell Unix comes with due to all the funding and building of the security over the past 40 years by the DoD, but that is only serendipitous for the current unix crowd. They are quite honestly lacking any humbleness ot the point they make it seem that unix/linux distros were designed from the ground up for security first....at their hands!! What a crock. MS is getting there. They build a system for flexibility and developers and nobody can ever say they've lacked in programming tools. Go find a Visual Studio programmer that will tell you MS is **** in it's programmer support and I'll show you an idiot. Why doesn't everyone get real, allow MS to do their thing...it is a free market so why the bitching for MS to follow the Fed's standards like linux? If not for NSF linux would still be virtually a technologists only OS and you know that. I mean it really still is. You see it. MS doesn't turn it around often enough, or if they do release an OS it's why do they feel they need to change every x years. It's a no win by so many leftist goverment leaning weenies. They hate capitalism as it exists today. At least as applied to MS. The monopoly thing is the killer. AT&T was a monopoly. They owned the hardware literally coming into EVERYBODY's house! The MS story is NOTHING even similar to that of real monopoly case. It's an unprescedented occurance in our history and those that can't keep up with the big boys just started crying foul since they never really tried. Apple had ever chance to best MS in the desktop market. Why didn't they? Why didn't they do everything possible to make sure Apple pc's were on all desktops then, instead of waiting for MS to smooth that path, discover all of the ins and outs of doing it and doing all the real hard work and then cry foul and simply try to have them replaced by the federal government. bull$hit. They had their chance. Unix had it's chance. MS simply went into a market and if there were no challengers emerging, what did you expect them to do? They will hold the market share for at least another 20 years and it won't be open source and linux that gets them. It will be another closed system, most likely a proprietary Google box that will do it, witha more advanced OS that also doesn't dumb down to fit government standards. You know it's been shown time and time again that private business can always find a better way than the federal government or those that have relied and still rely heavily on them. So shall it continue.
