Open Office Betrayal?
Betrayal of whom? Microsoft? Since when is Microsoft owed loyalty by the customer. There is an argument for saying that Microsoft should be loyal to its customers but the evidence suggests that the only criteria Microsoft shows loyalty to are its bank balances and its sales force.

Star Office is certainly not a failed attempt at anything but in fact an excellent alternative to Microsoft Office. Likewise many people depended on Word Perfect as the primary word processor for many years and Quattro Pro was an excellent spreadsheet.

There is not requirement for all applications to be part of the same suite and provided they perform their functions and can share data where appropriate that is all that is needed.

Ximian Evolution is an excellent replacement for Outlook and Open Office Serrver for MS Exchange server. Why continue to pay Microsoft vast fortunes for functionality which is better and more cheaply obtained elsewhere such as in the open source community.

But then there are any number of alternatives under Linux which offer superior performance and reliability than their MS equivalents.

I seem to remember your fanatical support of windows in other newsgroups so your approach is well known.
