2) You don't have to give away your changes even if you take somebody else's code and make changes and use it for yourself.

3) You have to give away your chages ONLY if you take somebody else's code base and make changes and try to re-distribute it.

If you feel that could be called as "being forced to give your code away", you are free to feel so.

You think you should have the right to take someone else's code, make changes and claim all of it as yours and re-distribute ? Doesn't sound like a good intention to me.
