Problem: only 30 million swappers a day.
Apparently, 60 or 90 million are needed to provide an appropriate counterargument.

As you know, the situation is that record company and more recently movie company executives recognize they can make billions of dollars in additional profits by utilizing the internet as a distribution method. However, the executives would prefer not to see change in how the public obtains content.
They have therefore refused to make internet distribution convenient, appropriately inexpensive, and widespread.
The public in response has devised its own method for providing material, inconvenient and difficult, but at least available.
In response, the executives have misled and otherwise obtained control of the Congress in order to further their battle against additional revenues.
As part of this effort, Congress has been persuaded to deny rights the public has had available for centuries, and to pass laws with draconian penalties far disproportionate to any other offense without violence.
A large portion of the interested public has reacted with anger and contempt.
So the situation stands this morning.

If anyone should consider iTunes a model of distribution, remember that Apple has said they do not make money on their service because of the high cost of license from the content companies. Their profits instead come from players.
I expect that each service available has some other means of making money from internet distribution. The efforts of the content companies to squelch internet distribution may have failed so far, but the economic advantages for distributors are fragile, and the companies may yet succeed in denying themselves substantial profits once again.

The difficulty of a Republican form of government is that it's apparently easier to influence representatives than to adjust attitudes enough to respond to what the public is demanding.
