Solaris is still the best and sorry, no linux
My university has employed Sun's OSes for more than 20 years and all the staff and students are comfortable with them. Meanwhile, some outsiders persuaded me to consider Linux and I rejected him immediately. The reason is very simple: we will never use something infringes the intellectual property of a proprietory company. We also use Windows server 2003 in some departments for non-critical tasks.
