UTC = universal time coordinated = GMT
Look a little closer at the press release and you'll find one major hint to your (possible) misunderstanding: The date is actually April 1, 2004 UTC... UTC is an acronym which stands for "universal time coordinated," which is the same as Greenwich Mean Time.

This opens up the possibility of one reading the press release on March 31, 2004 (not UTC) even though it was released on April 1, 2004 (UTC)...

But then again, it could just be a mean April Fools' Day joke. (Note: For those that don't know, "April Fools' Day" is the same as "All Fools' Day.")
