The GPL permits the sale of the licensed software and derivatives thereof, but requires that recipients be granted all privileges granted to the distributor; in effect this means that the source code must be disclosed and no restrictions can be placed on modification or redistribution of either the original software or derivative works. As stated before, this does not make for very lucrative sales.

I can't point to an article stating Stallman's personal views on the subject (except that I vaguely remember a statement from several years ago that authors of GPLed software should sell it for as much as they can get), but I do note that the FSF itself (of which Stallman is founder and president) sells GPLed software (including a custom-compiled deluxe distribution of GNU for $1000).

Not that I can imagine that any version of the GPL would contain language of which Stallman would disapprove...
