I wrote it wrong
if a customer needs support in understanding, modifying or even fixing the code, with it being free, that customer can get support from anybody (or least anybody who can code) including the original code writer/developer. The code would most likely be commented to explain function calls and such, and not necessarily was I saying the code was not easy to maintain, but a customer may see code as a totally foreign thing to deal with no matter the ease of it to a skilled person.
