You've got extremes pulling on both ends

those stuck in the middle are walking a fine line. I favor a overhaul of the Patent Office system, but as noted, the way it's been approached, that may take some time. It's entrenched and has worked for big businesses for quite awhile, so who's going to push them to reform. Something being worse than nothing, . . depends on the desired outcome. Yes, to Stallman it would be, to Sun or IBM, it might not be, but who'll use and how should be considered by those running it. Maybe it's too late to navigate the train in any other direction or speed.
