One has to understand Stallman ...
Since he truly believes all IP protection is 'evil', he naturally opposes any effort to 'assist' that process to become more ethical and benign. He prefers that it be as bizarre as possible, making it even more susceptible to attack. ODSL is attempting to reform the process, a process that Stallman would prefer to see eliminated, and when a process is carefully reformed, it is much tougher to eliminate.

So I, along with Linus and others, respectfully disagree with Richard. I believe that good innovation deserves protection for a reasonable period. There are those who code for fun, and those who code to put a roof over their family and food on their table. Both deserve protection. And open source folks need to come to grips with the proprietary world and cooperate with proprietary vendors as much as possible so that the world can enjoy a wealth of free software PLUS a wealth of VALUE ADDED proprietary software coexisting on the same platforms. This is both possible and desirable, but the open source radicals and the proprietary radicals need to be marginalized first. And that WILL happen.
