Re: monopoly
I am not sure why the EU would want to trump up the negatives of 50,000 new jobs? Fifty Thousand new jobs doesn't change Microsoft's monopoly status.

Dominance has good and bad aspects. Tame the bad aspects, perhaps, but don't ignore the good aspects. Wise antitrust policy attempts to figure out the OPTIMAL solution from a market standpoint, which means not ignoring the reasons markets favor dominance by one company in IT markets in the first place.

Are you just saying that because they found Microsoft a monopoly and you thus conclude that the UE hates Microsoft?

I would say the EU is not understanding the organic nature of markets. There ARE reasons why Microsoft, and IBM before them, became the center of gravity in IT markets.

Unfortunately, the EU thinks it needs to simply oppose Microsoft. That's what I mean when I say the EU has an interest in trumping up the negatives.
