Microsoft funded the study meaning they decide if it is released.
Releasing is the same thing as determining the outcome because if the study were unfavorable and did not support Microsoft's attempts to bypass antitrust penulties it would have been filed in a dark room or shredded never to see the light of day.

Were there other studies funded by Microsoft at IDC or other groups? If say 9 out of 10 did not support the desired conclusion were they just ignored? When the Economist stated that Microsoft was a monopoly, I understand it greatly upset Bill Gates, who had been schooled otherwize by Balmer, Neucom and Smith. Balmer and Smith have degrees in economics.

The film Inconvient Truth is relevant. The press can not be fair and ballanced when that means one report saying one thing and another saying the oposite with the implied notion that 50 50 is fair and ballanced even when of 100 scientists 99 support only one position.
